Booksignings and Spielberg’s Lincoln

My recent book signing, short book tour / promotion trip to the BC lower mainland went pretty well. The special event at the Coles in the Willowbrook Shopping Centre in Langley, which my publicist Rachel, and myself, found out about quite late, was actually really successful. The mall was super busy during the ticketed “White Hot Tuesday Night” shopping evening, the book sold very well, and Barrie and the other staff at Coles were very helpful in setting up and through the night.

It ended at ten so we all packed up and then off I zipped to Colossus theatre in Langley. Wow, I went to school in Langley (Trinity Western) and has it ever changed! Talk about major build up. I would like to see it during the day to see what has happened to the city.

I wanted to watch Stephen Spielberg’s movie Lincoln this trip as I have my doubts it will get to Prince George. Unlike Robert Redford’s The Conspirator, and the Vampire Hunter movie, this one was quite good, I thought. I could have done without the swearing, particularly what was put in Lincoln’s mouth, but I found the plot to be quite engaging, and dealing with an aspect of Lincoln’s Presidency that I wasn’t that familiar with. The script was based on Goodwin’s book Team of Rivals. About three quarters into it, I estimate the sound malfunctioned and the movie stopped and there was a delay. I had had enough this day, it was pretty late so I didn’t stay. The theatre was very good and gave me another movie pass so maybe I can get another chance to see it. I also got a chance to see some old friends, so it was a trip well worth taking.
