With priests and nuns having Rwandan blood on their hands, the Pope finally asks for forgiveness for the Roman Catholic Church.

The Globe and Mail recently reported that “Pope Francis on Monday begged forgiveness for the ‘sins and failings of the church and its members’ during Rwanda’s 1994 genocide as the Holy See sought to open a new phase in relations nearly a quarter-century after the slaughter.” http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/world/pope-begs-forgiveness-for-church-role-in-rwandan-genocide/article34346210/.
With shades of the genocide in Yugoslavia during World War 2, once again the Roman Catholic is implicated in a horrific genocide. It is truly amazing that these “men and women of God” thought that they were doing the right thing when they participated in the murders of these civilians. It is good, I guess, that the head of this religion / nation has admitted what was done to at least some extent but it has been slow going to get it, the article details. Again, this is truly amazing information and confession.
The Guardian also had a very interesting op-ed piece in it several years ago by Chris McGreal entitled “The Catholic church must apologise for its role in Rwanda’s genocide: The Vatican’s reluctance to confront those accused of murder in its midst is rooted in its refusal to face up to the church’s complicity in the events of 1994”. It can be found at https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/apr/08/catholic-church-apologise-failure-rwanda-genocide-vatican.
